League Update

Latest Update
June 10, 2021

Hello Parents / Guardians

Hopefully everyone is coping as well as a can be while we navigate slowly toward a possible end to the COVID-19 pandemic.  This notice is being sent out to update and highlight our program as we prepare for a reopening in the Fall of 2021. The S.H.A. Hockey Club (Scarborough Ice Raiders) has determined, after consulting with our Governing Bodies (Hockey Canada, Ontario Hockey Federation, and Greater Toronto Hockey League), City of Toronto and the Provincial Government that we can tentatively start preparations for a 2021/2022 season.

Although at this time it is impossible to have firm start dates and program length, we do have the ability to design a program that will work regardless of length or start date. All programming will be prorated when confirmation from our Governing Bodies, City of Toronto and the Provincial Government the actual Return to Play commences.  Hopefully herd immunity will be achieved this summer as we all start to get vaccinated and we move forward in a positive direction throughout the summer to help us get back to enjoying the great game of hockey in the fall.

Below are some important dates and timelines as we move toward providing programming for the 2021/2022 season.

HOUSE LEAGUE: All players are released from the 2020/2021 season as of May 31, 2021. This simply means all players are able to sign with any organization after this date. Any players wishing to continue in the S.H.A. Hockey Club programming MUST register again even if they were registered for this past year. Earliest possible start date for programming will be Saturday October 16/ 2021 depending on Provincial restrictions if COVID-19 is still a dominating factor.

It has been determined to help with Social Distancing and enhance our ability to follow the Provincial Guidelines, we will have a maximum of 11 players per team, unless of course it is determined that the number is to be less than 22 per ice pad by our Governing Bodies and the Government of Ontario. We will operate a system of having 1 goaltender and 2 lines, which means every player will be on every other shift. The attendance weekly and age group will determine if it is 5 on 5 or 4 on 4 hockey or any equal combination of the above.  Under 6 through Under 9 will still follow the guidelines of the Initiation Program which could result in smaller teams with modified ice rules in effect.

Under 6 through Under 15 will have weekly practices Under 16 and above will not practice weekly. Due to the player restrictions regarding ice usage, Skating Skills and Goalie Skills will not be apart of programming for this season only.

Cost: House League Programming will be based on ice cost ONLY! The S.H.A. Hockey Club (Scarborough Ice Raiders) will subsidize the cost of Officiating, Insurance, Jerseys and all other related expenses.  Therefore, based on a 22-week program for this season a player’s registration cost will be:

Little Raiders: $275.00
Under 6 through Under 8: $385.00

Under 9 through Under 15: $440.00
Under 16 through Under 20: $385.00 (no practices / longer games)

Online Registration again will be the ONLY means of registering which will begin on August 1, 2021. Complete registration details will be sent prior to July 25th via email and it will be posted on our websites at  www.syhl.ca and www.scarboroughockey.ca.

SELECT PROGRAM: Earliest possible start date for programming will be in late September or early October 2021 depending again on Provincial restrictions if COVID-19 is still a dominating factor. Try-outs will be determined as we move toward opening and an Email Blast will be sent out with information regarding dates and it will be posted on our websites at  www.syhl.ca and www.scarboroughockey.ca when confirmed.

Any questions regarding Select Programming can be directed to George Rennie at georgerennie@sympatico.ca .

COMPETITIVE A & AA: Players are not released to Competitive Teams until the first day of AAA tryouts and competitive players cannot register/sign with a team until the tryout window.  Earliest possible Try-Outs will take place on Friday September 10, 2021 depending as well on Provincial restrictions if COVID-19 is still a dominating factor. Starting with AAA followed by the AA and then A, each level lasting 7 days.

Any questions regarding Competitive programming can be directed to Joe Gifkins at gifkinsjoe@rogers.com or Mark Leybourne at leybournemark@rogers.com .

All questions can be directed to shahockey@rogers.com and will be answered to the best of our knowledge at the time of the request.

As previously stated all Seasonal Awards from the 2019 / 2020 season will be distributed when it is safe to do so.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and myself, we wish you all a healthy and safe summer with hopefully a quick return to our programming and a new normal.
